Linda About Us

The Hebridean Soap Company is the first commercial soap-producing Company in the Western Isles.

It was begun formally in 2002, with the aim of producing a natural soap, made in the old traditional ways, from local ingredients where possible, which would be kinder to skin, but still excite the senses.

I had made soap for friends and family for many years, and in 2003 I successfully expanded the production and range of products and started supplying local and mainland hotels. In addition I am supplying to the private gift market through craft fairs, markets and the internet.

My soap is currently made in a custom-built kitchen, attached to my house, and raw materials are stored in a converted stone-built barn, which was, 100 years ago, a dwelling-house. Sheep graze in the crofts alongside, and magnificent Loch Roag and the moods of Hebridean weather can be seen through the windows.

However, building work started in September 2005 to transform the ‘warehouse’ into a working soap kitchen and retail outlet. To check progress through my online ‘Blog’ (internet log), please click on the image above!

I am zealously enthusiastic about our beautiful islands, which in my opinion are one of the best-kept secrets in the world. I am always available to give information, advice, further contacts, or just chat about any aspect of this wonderful place, or indeed, about my soapmaking, so should you have any questions, please feel free to email me!

Also, please take a look at the Links page for official Western Isles websites, and allied craftspeople on this island.
