Like many others, I suspect, I had been getting these annoying messages for a while, urging me to upgrade to Windows 10 …
I had my own personal reasons for not wanting to … I was happy with W7 professional, it did everything I wanted it to, and my laptop is an old heirloom, ancient, but reliable … I seriously doubted it could stand the upgrade, already running, as it does, close to the line …
So I declined … every time … no thankyou …
Then yesterday, I went out shopping in the afternoon, and came back at 4.30pm to a message on my laptop screen that said
“SYSTEM UPGRADE IN PROGRESS – 12%”,
and I blenched in anger, they were doing it whether wanted it or not …!!
I thought back to when my last system backup was, and sorted out my backup PC, in case the upgrade didn’t work, I can’t afford to be without email for very long …
Happily the upgrade worked, and the PC started up again in a fashion that I recognised, on the applications anyway …
I spent the evening fine-tuning the settings, and discovering what you couldn’t easily do in W10 and the ways around it …
I guess Microsoft would call that a success story …
But where do they get off upgrading my laptop to an o/s I didn’t want and certainly didn’t consent to …?
There are stories from people who have not been so lucky, and the upgrade has trashed their computers … Where do you go to complain about *that* …?
